English-speaking nannies in Sweden

How we match your family with a nanny who speaks your language

When you've relocated to Sweden and your children don't yet speak Swedish, childcare becomes a language question before it becomes anything else. A nanny who can't communicate with your child isn't really an option. It's the starting point, not a preference.

That's why language is one of the first things we ask about. Your nanny specialist builds the search around it, along with location, schedule, and the kind of experience your family needs.

How language matching works

Language isn't an add-on filter. It's part of the intake process from the very beginning.

When you start working with us, your nanny specialist asks which languages are spoken at home and which languages matter for your children's care. English-only, bilingual, or a specific combination — it all goes into the brief before any candidate search begins.

Candidates in our network have their language skills documented as part of their profile. Your specialist uses this to build a shortlist that fits, rather than sending you candidates and hoping one happens to speak the right language. Read more about how the matching process works.

Bilingual nannies

Many of our candidates speak both Swedish and English fluently. For expat families, this can be a genuine advantage beyond the obvious.

A bilingual nanny gives your child consistent exposure to Swedish in a low-pressure setting. Children pick up language through play, routine, and repetition — exactly the kind of interaction that happens naturally with a nanny. Your child hears Swedish during meals, walks, and games, while still having English as a safe fallback when they need it.

This doesn't replace formal Swedish language support. But it builds familiarity and confidence in a way that classroom settings often can't match. For families planning to stay in Sweden long term, it's worth considering.

Availability by city

The size of our English-speaking candidate pool varies by location.

Stockholm has the largest concentration of English-speaking and bilingual candidates. The city's international community means more candidates with strong English, and more families looking for them. Supply and demand are both higher here.

Gothenburg and Malmö also have solid pools of English-speaking nannies. Both cities attract international residents and university students, which keeps the candidate base varied. Uppsala is growing steadily as its international university community expands.

Availability varies. In smaller cities and rural areas, the pool of English-speaking candidates is naturally smaller. Your specialist will be upfront about timelines and realistic about what's possible in your area. Sometimes it takes longer. We'd rather be honest about that than promise something we can't deliver quickly.

Beyond English

English is the most requested language after Swedish, but it's far from the only one.

We regularly work with candidates who speak German, French, Spanish, and Arabic. Mandarin, Portuguese, Hindi, and other languages come up too, though availability depends heavily on location. Stockholm and Gothenburg offer the widest range. In smaller cities, finding a candidate with a specific third language may require more patience.

If language is a priority for your family, tell your specialist early. It shapes the search from day one and helps set the right expectations about timing.

What to expect from the matching

Your nanny specialist handles the search so you don't have to sift through profiles yourself. They match on language, location, schedule, and experience — then present one candidate at a time for you to consider.

One at a time is deliberate. It means you can properly evaluate each person rather than comparing five profiles that blur together. You'll see a presentation of the candidate's background, experience, and language skills before deciding whether to meet them.

If the first candidate isn't right, your specialist goes back to the search. There's no pressure to accept, and no limit on how many candidates you can meet. You always meet the nanny before making any commitment — that's how it works, every time.

The process typically takes one to three weeks, depending on your requirements and location. Language-specific requests in well-served cities like Stockholm can move faster. More niche combinations or smaller cities may take longer.

When you're ready, tell us about your family and we'll start the conversation.
